Lonely Planet East Africa

Trekking in East Africa
Africa

As well as the five countries listed above, there is some useful information on many other countries in the Warnings section. I am hoping to add more countries to this section in the future. If you have any information on ANY African countries I would be very grateful to receive it.

This for me has got to be a must place to visit, if only to see the animals in their own environment, it is unbelievable how clean, well camouflaged and healthy looking some of the animals are compared to what most people see them in a zoo. We saw a bull elephant, (it was about 100-200 yards away from us) on the perimeter of a very sparse area of bushes, within 5 steps it had gone into the bushes and completely disappeared.
I visited Tanzania once to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, this is a superb trip that most reasonably fit people would be capable of doing, it is well worth it, I visited Kenya a total of five times, it is a country I would never get fed up of seeing. Although if you are a very emotional person it could be one of the worse place you could ever visit, the poverty in places is so bad it hurts.
Africa must rate amongst one of the cheapest places to travel I had no problem managing on a couple of dollars per day. Be sure to use the local transport, you never know you may end up sat next to somebody with six live chickens and a couple of live pigglets in a sack, if you do travel this way always keep your backpack with you, never put it on top of the bus out of your sight. I heard of people finding their packs slit open and half empty.
